Furumachi once thrived as one of the first five ports opened when Japan resumed trade with the West at the end of the Edo period (1869).
This project takes the history, culture, and tradition of hospitality that the port town has inherited and redesigns them to suit the current values and style, creating a new kind of charm for the community.
Using the local resources of port-town Furumachi, we will establish a sustainable hospitality and tourism business that can be passed to the next generation.

Our community development process is based on renovating and using vacant properties and traditional private homes throughout the area.
Rediscovering Furumachi Project
The project aims to revitalize the Furumachi area, calling back to its bustling history as one of the five ports open to outside trade. We will create a Furumachi that calls out with its unique hospitality and culture.

Creating new forms and values while respecting the historical values, landscape, and resources that make Furumachi unique, we will dedicate time to work on community development blending classic immutable styles and new trends, as the times demand.

We will create a new Furumachi by taking advantage of the characteristics of each property one by one and linking them together as part of community development for the whole area.
